Erin Brockovich

California is a small town of the Mojave Desert. Erin Brockovich has been married twice and has three children. In addition, she has not job. She works as an assistant in a law office later.
One day, during setting papers in order, she finds a doubtful file. As a result of having investigated it, she discovers the fact that the factory of the big company discharges the sexivalent chrome of the toxic substance.

Julia Roberts who plays Erin in the movie, got a job at a small law firm.
Erin requests Edward "You were defeated in the trial you can win, you give me work instead." I agree to her approach. Her approach is forced, but the desperate state in which she'd like to be employed is felt to us. If I’m a situation same as Edward, I will employ her in the same way as him. She appeals by oneself to get work. I think that an appeal like her is necessary to get work. The strong-willedness is sometimes necessary, too.

Julia Roberts talks about life not always turning out the way we expect it to.
This is the scene where she tells oneself to George. Erin was Miss Wichita. She says “I thought it meant I was gonna do something important with my life.” However, her work doesn’t reach smoothly and she hardly has money. In addition, she must feed three children. She has been awfully depressed. I think there is a person who knows you to be exerting oneself. An effort pays off.

The pursuit of happiness

The movie is based on Chris Gardner's half life. Will Smith part of Chris, and Jaden Smith part of Chris's son. This movie became the topic by parent and child costarring.
Also, Chris Gardner appears in the last scene. I think that he is very wonderful person.

San Francisco of 1981.
Linda who is Chris's wife and their son and Chris Gardner lived sold the new medical instruments which measured bone density.

However, the sales of the machine was behind with the tax without getting along well and lived a painful life to survive it somehow in the part of the wife. Linda can't endure a painful life finally, and she take her son and have gone out.

Will Smith tells his son to "never let anyone tell you that you can't do something".
I think that he wants to tell "Even though you was said by people, you aren't supposed to give up and you can do something.” to his son. Even though people can't do something, you have a possibility that that can be done. "I cannot do it" and must not lose possibility of your own. Chris worked strenuously. As a result, he got a job. The competition magnification of the person who would like to be employed is high. People may think it's reckless. However, he never gave up. As a result, he got a job. If you never give up, you succeed.

Will Smith shows up for an interview for an internship position at a famous stock broking company wearing regular clothes and covered in paint.
Chris was arrested because of a parking violation before, he was painting an apartment. He said at interview. “If I ask me a question, and I don’t know the answer. I’m gonna tell you that I don’t know. But I bet you what. I know how to find the answer, and I will find the answer.” If I'm its situation, I couldn’t say quick-witted thing and I will pocket the reason that does not wear a suit. I think he is smart and quick-witted. In the interview, we have to answer a question well.

Coach Carter

I watched the movie in the Movie English class. "Coach Carter" is based on the true story of a Richmond High School basketball coach who tries to effect positive change in a group of student athletes who have given up hope on creating a successful future.

Coach Carter accomplished positive change. I think that he hope for student's entrance into a school of higher grade and they want to let them graduate. Coach Carter is very severe about education. The student's results were bad. So he blocked the gymnasium.

At the beginning of the basketball season he gets his players to sign a contract. It is "You will maintain a 2.3 grade point average. You will attend all your classes and you will sit in the front row of those classes. They gotta wear coat and ties on game days.” I think that he teach common sense so as not to do the thought that their embarrassed when they become a working member of society sometime. If you become a member of society, you must wear tidy clothes and you must keep the appointment.
I agree him, because he becomes kind and thinks about their future. I think that he is very strict, but the strictness has the kindness. If I was a player, first has a doubt in this method, but I'd feel teacher's eagerness and agree. There will be few teachers thinking about students.

When he found out that over half of his team was failing he suspended all practice sessions and forfeited the following games.
I think that they have to study for the future. Carter Coach says “These boys are student athletes. “Student” comes first.” When I was a high school student, I was in the club like them. I wanted to concentrate on club activities, but I had to study to decide my course. I think the meaning of the  “student-athlete” to be “the person who can balance both the study and the sports.” It is “Bunburyoudo” in Japanese. I agree, because the word shows the study and the sport. They can’t appear in the society only by basketball. So the coach suspended all practice sessions and forfeited the following games.

At various times throughout the movie, he asks Cruz who is a student,"What is your deepest fear young man?"
I think that the question is very difficult. Cruz says “Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.” It is very abstract. I think that he is worried about the future and he is afraid to be confronted with the anxiety. So he is absent from a class and always plays basketball. I think that Coach Carter saw through the anxiety that he had.

At the end of the movie during the locker room scene Coach Carter tells his team that he failed to meet his objectives for the basketball season.
I think that, they lost a game, but they developed as a person. For example, they came to keep a promise, and they became strong in a bond between the groups. Furthermore, their results became very good. Coach Carter says “I had come to teach basketball to boys, but you became the "student". As for me, these words are impressive.

"You're so slow, I'm surprised you ever get anywhere," he teased. "I may be slow," replied the tortoise, "but I bet I can reach the end of this field before you."

There are some stories in the book. Famous story is "The tortoise and the hare". The hare made a fool of a tortoise being slow-moving. The tortoise raced against him to see who could run faster. Instantly, the hare outdistanced the tortoise. But the tortoise continued walking. The hare took a rest on the way. After a while, the hare got up. The hare thought that the tortoise had not caught up. And he began to run. But the tortoise finished the race earlier than he. This story sad, the earnest and patient person is successful.
